work day

Check out the section of fence that the wind blew over a few weeks ago. Joel and the kids spent an afternoon fixing it.

nevermind

Annie was helping me put stacks of CD's back in their cases tonight when she came across a Nirvana case. I thought she would have some comment about the naked baby, but all she had to say was, "Look mom! There's money in the water!" Jonah wanted to know if it was a picture of him.

Speaking of that album cover, Joel heard this interview on NPR a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty interesting. Joel has fond memories of that album. Nirvana introduced him to Seattle, kept him away from hair band music and helped him survive volleyball road trips (it was that or the "Christian rap" that was playing in the van). Incidentally, the top 3 events that have shocked him the most are:
1. Space Shuttle Challenger
2. 9/11
3. Kurt Cobain's suicide

go unicorns

Joel and Annie had their last soccer game yesterday. This was Annie's first season playing and Joel's first season coaching. Annie says she had a good time, but she seemed rather unenthusiastic about the entire thing. Joel grew up playing soccer as a kid and in college, so he was excited about coaching Annie's team. Except for the week when half the girls broke down crying and refused to continue playing because of mud, all seemed to go well. Jonah was eager to play as well, warming up with the girls every week and trying to sneak onto the field during the games. Too bad he has to wait 2 more years to play.

Like her father, Annie's favorite position is keeper. "I don't like the running part," was her motto.

Yeah, it looks like she's being aggressive but she was really prancing around like a horse. Which seems appropriate since their team name was Unicorns.

Climbing trees after the game was much more exciting than soccer.

We're still trying to figure out which genius picked out dark gray team shirts for 5-year old girls. She had no trouble accessorizing with pink, however. Note that she even found shoes with pink on them.

Joel's favorite new website:

http://www.footballocks.net/

He says it's because he can see Chelsea highlights. I think he just likes the name.
